Buffalo Incurs $8,000.00 fine

January 07, 2009

An $8.000.00 fine and a Voluntary Consent Order initiated by the Department of Environmental Quality (D.E.Q.) were on the agenda for tonight’s Town Board meeting. The Consent Order was not settled because Trustees believe the order contained a disagreeable timetable for completion and satisfaction.

The order was impending since failure to maintain the facility and improper/illegal activities were engaged in by town employees at the waste water management property. (sewer ponds) Inside Buffalo covered all of the drama about this dilemma in previous articles published in Inside Buffalo Magazine and found on this site. HERE

There is a silver lining, however, inasmuch as out of the $8,000.00 - $5,000.00 worth of fines will be waived as long as the Town complies and completes the Consent Order in the time frame, once it is agreed upon. The remaining $3,000.00 consists of State fines but $2,000.00 will come back and is able to be used within the Town of Buffalo for a “feel good” project. Again, this is explained in other articles previously published on our web site.

Want more information about this “feel good” project? Got a great idea for a $2,000.00 project? Contact a Town Board Trustee or City Hall and get involved. Share your opinion.
