What is Ambition Worth?

by a Buffalo Resident

"A man's reach should exceed his grasp..."

Robert Browning

Is there any value on wanting to succeed or accomplish?
Get on the Internet and visit Ebay – place an order for a Gallon of Motivation!
Drive over to Venture Foods and buy even a pint of it.
Wouldn't that be a great concept? What's ambition worth? Is ambition rare? Does its value equal that of Gold?

Without ambition there is no success. So, what is success worth?

The question is not only about value. It's more along the lines of whether everyone appreciates ambition as such an intrinsically high value commodity.

Evidently, in Buffalo Oklahoma, ambition is but for a few and indifference and lethargy appears to be the prescription for the masses.

There is a young man living in Buffalo, of Hispanic ancestry, with big dreams of attending college and becoming a Doctor. He's not going to get there by twiddling his thumbs!   If he fails to have the will and the ambition, he will be stuck with whatever the world hands him. Maybe we would find him working on an oil rig or at a feed lot - and there's nothing wrong with that. However, with the ambition to study hard, participate in extracurricular activities, work equally as hard as he studies, then he would in most instances, have some other, greater form of success. He may not fully accomplish every goal he sets, but without a doubt if he tries, someone is bound to take notice.

Success requires a massive amount of ambition and drive. A bit of inspiration goes a long way as well.
Paralleling ambition is faith - faith that one day, if you keep at your work effort, you will be rewarded.
What’s most important? Having the motivation and confidence to go out and get what you want, whether than wait for success to present itself to you.
We all know young men and women who worked very hard to fulfill their dreams. They are, without a doubt, thankful for the ambition that kept them going on their journey.

It appears that in Buffalo today, ambition is an ambiguous concept. Very few seem comfortable in accepting ambition as a natural and expected part of life.
In the past, ambition was considered an essential ingredient in one's quest for success. Those possessing ambition were likely to be seen as rising stars and high achievers - people to watch and nurture.
Those few endowed with natural ambition are, in 2009, regarded as 'pushy', 'aggressive' or 'a$$-holes', words that are not exactly complimentary and are deliberately meant to bully or imply an absence of humility, rising to jealousy in the majority of the community.

Ambition is often confused with the need for power. Wrong! Personal potential cannot be achieved by doing nothing and hanging back. Reaching a goal has absolutely nothing to do with power.

If one is alleged to have too much ambition, then that is a negative attribute, suggesting notions of self-fulfillment and importance way above their 'station' in life.
Using this perspective, Inside Buffalo Magazine, the Onside Buffalo Blog, a single Buffalo Board Trustee, and other select 'few' within the Buffalo community who are actually getting off their rear ends to accomplish something are labeled. Because they have 'ambition', they are tagged with derogatory labels as stated above; pushy, aggressive or a$$-holes.
If one is professed to be pushy or aggressive, then how much is that person's 'ambition' worth?

Role Models are rife with ambition, intelligence, supreme emotional strength or natural talent. That's what creates successful people. Intelligence is not always about having a wealth of knowledge, rather, it's about being intelligent enough, and informed or knowledgeable about the topic or subject required to attain success in the field one chooses.
There are many intelligent people with loads of talent but without the drive to do anything about one's abilities, those abilities are useless and will go to waste.
How much is their ambition worth?

Want to get something done? Ambition is what gets it done!

Ambition is what has created the wealthy, the notables, the role models, and those that live perceived happy lives.
Ambition is one of the most valuable commodity you can posses, and the more ambition you have, the better.
It’s value then, is PRICELESS.

Editor’s note:
There are a few, perhaps many, citizens of Buffalo taking an interest in the community of Buffalo because of the increased awareness provided to them by the various outlets mentioned in this article.
Several concur with the Buffalo Blog, Inside Buffalo Magazine and Town Board Trustees. On the reverse of that, scores do not. It’s that disparity which creates dialogue.
The betterment of Buffalo is the goal of all of those individuals involved. They possess ambition.
As the gap increases between those with ambition and those lacking in ambition, the community suffers.
There is nothing wrong with being ambivalent regarding an issue so long as one is ambitious about the betterment of the community.
Informing the masses, keeping Buffalo, Oklahoma informed and creating a discourse, an exchange of ideas is what permits ambition to reach success.
Ambition within Buffalo creates successful projects, solves dilemmas, stops fiascos, replaces languor.
Do you prefer to fault those with ambition? You desire to label ambitious people?
Take into account that ambition is not a yearning for power, to a certain extent, in this illustration, it is a form of self-realization and a willingness to assist with improving the lives of Buffalo residents.
Find fault with that!
