Buffalo Got Their Barney!
Thursday, February 19, 2009
Inside Buffalo had previously written about how the Town was in need of an assistant police officer to the chief of police. Buffalo Wants Their Own Version of Barney Fife
Last night, at the special Town Board meeting of the Town of Buffalo, those Trustees in attendance voted to allow the police chief to do what he was hired to do. And, they gave him the funds needed to carry out his task of operating Buffalo’s Police Department. Chief Murrell presented a budget, an accumulation of his and others work in assembling, to the Board for approval.
Our esteemed Mayor, Ms. Buss, at last night’s meeting made these comments:
“I just wanted to say that we appreciate…everyone being patient with us, um, it’s a decision that obviously effects our budget, y-know, drastically so, umm, we just needed the extra time to look at it and make sure that it’s really that, it’s something we wanted to do, Uh, for me, uh, it was, uh, the reason I, I wasn’t for it was not what I felt like we had initially planned, especially so soon, the hiring of another officer.”
Editor’s Note: What, Ms. Buss, had you originally planned? Cover your tracks. You voted for every motion or decision for a police department from the beginning. Anyone can go here and see the Town Board minutes for themselves. YOU, Ms. Buss knew what you were getting into! Inside Buffalo wrote about this in the Mayor Fiasco article. You've known there was going to be a police department for nearly 2 years! You’ve been making decisions in the affirmative for a police department for close to a year! Buffalo taxpayers are smart enough to see right through this artificial fakery.
She continued: “Having that said we’re going to go ahead and approve the budget…”
The Town Board gave the new Police Chief, $40,000.00 for the remainder of the fiscal year. The fiscal year ends in just a little over 4 months at the end of June.
The Board also approved the hiring of a new officer, with salary and benefits, to join the Buffalo Police force.
The Town Board then approved the hiring of officer Trent Maggard, a recent sheriff deputy with the Harper County Sheriff’s office.
Chief Murrell, furthermore, spoke up and thanked reserve officer Tommy Painter, who, the Chief said has “stepped up” and helped him out when he was unavailable.
Missing, once again at the Town Board meeting was trustee Alan Bishop. Mr. Bishop has missed an overabundance of meetings for the Town. It’s noteworthy that he has missed another one because this is the same Alan Bishop who is seeking reelection to the Town Board in April’s election only a month or so away.
-This is the same Alan Bishop who votes one way at one Town Board meeting then votes the other way at the next Town Board meeting and does so when voting on the same topic!
See: where he voted to Amend an Ordinance
See: where he voted Against the Same Ordinance
-This is the same Alan Bishop who, when a complaint was made at a Town Board meeting about dogs running loose terrorizing people and barking at all hours of the day and night, responded to the effect: ‘That’s what dogs do! Let dogs be dogs.”
-This is the same Alan Bishop who called an elder pillar of this community a liar and a few other choice names, after that person had attended a Town Board meeting in support of the editor of Inside Buffalo Magazine. The Town Board meeting had adjourned and the attendees had left the meeting room. A selection of citizens remained outside the chambers in the hallway and heard the Town Board openly continue with their meeting, in violation of the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, wherein Alan Bishop berated those in attendance and called the residents some ripe names, mixed with a few expletives. The persons in the hallway, stormed into the chambers and confronted the Board members about what had transpired wherein a board member once again adjourned the meeting – TWICE adjourning a Town Board meeting in total violation of the Law. SURPRISE! What occurred never showed up in the minutes of that meeting. No problem though, there was more than one person who witnessed it.
-Yes! This is the same Alan Bishop who falls asleep during the Town Board meetings needing a nudge now and then to awaken him to his senses.
-Yup! The same guy who… maintains on his person, a distinct odor of alcohol, before, during, and after a Town of Buffalo Trustee meeting? NO! You say? But how can that be? It must be that new beer ‘after-shave’ or ‘cologne.’ One only needs to attend a meeting and speak with him or, better yet, sit outside Buffalo’s local convenience store where Mr. Alan Bishop can be seen purchasing a Keystone Light Tallboy before virtually every Town Board Meeting.
That’s just who I want to represent me at Buffalo Town Board meetings!
They’ve all talked about it; fellow Board members, employees, attendees, friends. They say things like: “Did you smell Alan Bishop last night? – My God did he reek of beer?” Or one can visit Buffalo’s Blog where this quote can be found:
For reasons unknown, incumbent Alan Bishop did not attend this important special meeting.
