D.E.Q. Visits Doby Springs
Town of Buffalo Cited with 9 Violations / Deficiencies
Thw Town Board of Trustees of the Town of Buffalo met on Friday, April 11th, 2009.
As usual, the manager's report and economic development director's reports were submitted to the trustees but NOT shared with the attendees nor were they discussed in the open forum or listed on the agenda as they have been for the last few years. Few years meaning at least since October 2004.
It appears the Town's counsel has said that those reports are available for anyone by asking city hall for a copy but they aren't going to be discussed verbally at the meetings any longer.
PROBLEM!
Problem? Why?
Because those reports are simply glossed over by trustees and rarely actually read. OK, we need to give the new trustees, elected on April 7, 2009 the benefit of the doubt. However, past history shows us that at least one trustee actually reads the packet of information given prior to the meeting of Trustees of the Town Board. One. Uno.
On more than one, make that more than 2, make that more than 3 -- OK, OK, on numerous occasions, discussions at the Town Board meetings have ensued wherein the majority of the trustees, including the Mayor herself, has asked questions or made comments indicating by their very nature, the fact that these trustees never read the reports or information in their packets given them by the Town Clerk.
Why is this important? Because the manager's report fails to mention the DEQ visit and, therefore, fails to inform the Town Trustees that there were 9 Deficiencies/violations found at Doby Springs. Yes, Doby Springs, the source of our water supply for the Town. The same place a MAJOR water monitoring quality violation was found in 2008 in our drinkling water. You may recall the violation notice the taxpayers of Buffalo received last year about this time.
The Town Trustees don't know there were 9 deficiencies found at Doby Springs in February because the Town Manager failed to notify them. This is not unique, however, because the Town Manager's report fails to notify the Trustees, the Town Manager's bosses, of many things regularly.
The DEQ report shows the date of the visit, the fact that there were 9 deficiencies and also lists that there were 0 - ZERO deficiencies resolved.
